YOU’VE PLAYED WITH MANY CLIENTS & CELEBRITIES OVER YOUR TIME HERE. ANY MEMORABLE MOMENTS TO SHARE?
Last year, we had a tennis exhibition with Nicolas Almagro and Victor Estrella. They are both very talented professional players who offer their time to give clinics to kids. Also, the Tennis Center has served as a location for reality shows, photoshoots and videos many times in the past.
WHAT IS THE MOST REWARDING THING ABOUT YOUR ROLE AS DIRECTOR OF TENNIS?
The relationships we have built with our guests, the satisfaction of providing a good service, and working with our ball boy team. Not only are they part of the tennis staff, they have also grown into professional players since they were children and have participated in competitions. It makes me feel very proud.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT TEACHING TENNIS TO CHILDREN?
Working with kids from the beginning can create a strong foundation. I like seeing their constant development and helping them to discover their skills and talents with our Tennis academy. We currently have over 50 children between the ages of 5 and 16 years old taking classes on regular basis.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF WHEN IT COMES TO THE TENNIS PROGRAM AND THE FACILITIES AT CASA?
When I arrived in January of 2017, I was amazed to discover the quality of the club facilities. It’s very unique within the Caribbean region to have this many excellent courts, and in such a prime location.
WHAT IS THE MOST EXCITING RECENT DEVELOPMENT FOR TENNIS LOVERS AT CASA?
Recently, the 13 courts have been completely renovated with new equipment and material. We are renovating the club’s pool to have an even more modern spot for our visitors to gather and relax. We are also planning to improve the lighting of the courts to have more availability for night play. Next year, we’ll have the 42nd edition of our annual Casa de Campo International Tennis Tournament, one of the most popular tennis tournaments in the Caribbean. We’ll also be hosting the National Junior Tournament, in addition to an exhibition with professional players worldwide.
