One of the most visually stunning 27-hole layouts in the world
Not many golfers know that Dye Fore was originally just an 18-hole championship course to go along with the two other Pete Dye-designed gems at Casa de Campo, The Links and the No. 1 golf course in the Caribbean, Teeth of the Dog® . Opened in 2003, the original Marina and Chavon nine-hole courses at Dye Fore offer spectacular views of the Dominican mountains, the Chavón River, Casa de Campo’s marina and Altos de Chavón. It was not until 2011 when the third nine-hole course, The Lagos, joined the other challenging cliff-side nines to complete one of the most visually stunning 27-hole layouts in the world.
Lagos means “Lakes” and it would be hard to argue any other name is more appropriate. Five out of the nine holes have a body of water in play, so even seasoned players should be prepared with a few extra balls just in case. When navigating the “virtual swimming pool” as many visitors have called the layout, it requires the same close attention as the more visually stunning Chavon and Marina nines. Dangerous waste bunkers, sneaky ravines and rock-guarded greens will not allow golfers of any skill level to relax on the demanding nine. With the Lagos nine completing the full three-course triumvirate on top of the Chavón River, Dye Fore has truly become the ultimate contrast to a normal round of golf in the Dominican Republic. Each nine is so distinct that it has been largely hailed as the most “underrated course in the Caribbean” by many golf aficionados. The dramatic terrain complements the storied Teeth of the Dog® in a way other parts of the world could only dream about. Before leaving the hilltop oasis, make sure to visit the new Dye Fore clubhouse and grab a bite to eat at either the Italian-inspired La Piazetta or recently opened Chilango Taqueria, both in the heart of Altos de Chavón.
Set along cliff tops and affording spectacular views When Casa de Campo ownership tasked golf course architect Pete Dye with building a fourth world-class layout at the resort, it didn’t give him a seaside parcel like the one he had for his masterpiece, Teeth of the Dog® . Instead, he now had to work on […]
“It was so cool when golfers out playing on Teeth of the Dog® would look up and see a huge American Airlines Boeing 727 jet either taking off or landing just a few yards off the course. It was spectacular!” reminisced Gilles Gagnon.
