Ahh, there’s nothing quite like a Caribbean beach for relaxing – warm crystal clear water, soft sand, salt air and warm breezes. While the beach can be restorative for your mind and body, those breezes and salty air can wreak havoc on your hair. We know our guests at Casa de Campo always want to look their best, so we’re sharing our top beach haircare secrets. These seven hair tips will keep your hair happy, healthy, and looking stylish while you’re sipping piña coladas or Il Trinitarios from the comfort of a chaise lounge at Minitas Beach.

1. Keep It Natural

At the beach, you’re on vacation and your hair should be too! Avoid using too many drying styling products, and also avoid styling tools that use heat, like your hair straightener. Embrace the natural waves the beach gives your hair, there’s a reason they sell surf-spray inspired products in salons – here at Casa de Campo, you’ll get the look the natural way!

2. Add SPF

In addition to applying sunscreen to your skin, your hair and scalp also need protection from the sun’s harmful rays. Protective hair sprays with SPF are available and should be used anytime you’ll be in the sun for extended periods of time.

3. Beach Friendly Hair Styles

For easy-breezy beach hair, opt for fun yet practical styles that can withstand a day of surf and sand. Put it in a high ponytail to show off your natural beachy waves, pull it back in a bun to look effortlessly chic, or create a fishtail braid for a sea-inspired look.

4. Pack Bobby Pins

Bobby pins are a girl’s best styling tool for a day at the beach. They will help hold any hairstyle in place, stay put better than hair elastics alone, and they can easily and quickly pin back any pieces of hair that may stray in the breeze.

5. Post-Swim Maintenance

After returning to the beach from a dip in the ocean, mist your hair with a leave-in conditioner and then run through it with a wide-toothed comb. The conditioner will help counteract the effects of salt water and help the comb glide through your hair to get out any tangles the waves may have created.

6. Add A Hat

A wide-brimmed hat is the perfect accessory for a day at the beach. In addition to solving any beach-styling issues you may have, it will help protect your hair and face from the sun’s drying effects, and will provide some additional shade if you plan on reading one of our favourite beach books.

7. Deep Condition

When you get back to your room for a shower, after shampooing, apply a deep conditioning mask to your tresses and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes before washing out. A mask will add extra moisture to your hair, leaving it looking soft and shiny and easy to style for your dinner reservation at La Caña.
